Colombian singer Shakira is no stranger to shading people, having famously released a diss track about her footballer ex-partner, Gerard Piqué. However, it appears the singer recently threw shade at a Spanish government body.
Earlier this week, news outlets reported that the Spanish National High Court, also known as the National Audience, has ordered the country’s tax authority to refund more than €55 million (RM254 million) to the pop star. The court ruled that the money was improperly collected in a dispute over her taxes.

To recap, back in 2017, Spanish authorities announced an investigation into Shakira’s taxes, alleging that she failed to pay taxes in Spain between 2012 and 2014, when she resided in Barcelona with her then-partner. The case went to trial in 2023, with Shakira settling the case by paying a €7.5 million (approximately RM34.7 million) fine.
However, on 18th May 2026 (Monday), the Spanish National High Court said that the Spanish Tax Agency failed to prove that Shakira had stayed in Barcelona long enough to classify her as a Spanish tax resident. As a result, the court ruled that the tax authority must return all amounts paid, plus legal interest, to the singer.
Shakira had long maintained her innocence on the tax fraud allegations, only settling the case for the sake of her children. As of reporting, she hasn’t directly commented on the court’s decision. However, fans noted that her recent Instagram post highlights how the pop star feels about the whole situation.

Earlier today (Tuesday, 19th May 2026), Shakira updated her Instagram account with a set of photos. While the post itself had no captions, it had Rihanna’s “Bitch Better Have My Money” as the accompanying track. Unsurprisingly, fans were amused by the song choice, quipping that Shakira shaded a government agency without even saying anything.
It’s worth noting that Shakira also mentioned the tax issues in her “BZRP Music Sessions #53” diss track. With many revisiting the song after the court’s ruling, some even wonder if there’s a chance of the singer dropping another chart-topping shade.
