Let us take a wild guess, if we were to mention Barramundi (ikan siakap) at this point, the first thing that comes to mind would be the thousand ringgit bill from the restaurant in Langkawi.

Earlier this month, the bill from a restaurant in Langkawi took Malaysian netizens by shock. Following up from that case, it was rumoured recently that the restaurant owner is to be sued because she failed to present complete business documents.

The man who made the restaurant go viral was shocked when the total of the 7 persons bill cost him up to RM1852.50. It has also invited different reactions from netizens. Some agreed with the man, while some blamed him for not paying attention at the price before ordering.

According to Datuk Rosol Wahid, Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, the owner of the floating restaurant in Langkawi has failed to provide complete business documentations when the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) asked for it. She will be charged under Section 53(A) Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Enforcement Act 2011. She could be fined up to RM50,000 or a RM25,000 compound if she is found guilty.

The minister also stated that the duration was already extended for her to submit the needed documents. “However, our request was still unfulfilled up to last 17th November. Hence, investigation papers are opened and shall be sent to the prosecutors office for further actions.”

The ministry also advised restaurant owners to keep their transaction records well, including purchase receipts and the process it went through, for the convenience of KPDNHEP’s investigations in the future. This would also steer business owners out of unnecessary cases like this.

So, we hope business owners are more aware next time, and customers pay attention to their orders!
