Red Bull Malaysia is Backing the Next Generation of Athletes Before Anyone Else

Red Bull Malaysia has officially launched “Red Bull Next Generation,” a new athlete development platform designed to do something simple but surprisingly rare: find young athletes before they become names everyone already knows.

Rolling out first in Malaysia and Indonesia, the programme is opening doors to athletes ages 18 to 25 across all sports and disciplines – from mainstream competitive fields to emerging scenes and niche communities that rarely get the spotlight.

The idea is to support the success stories by stepping in earlier, during the grind, the uncertainty, the in-between phases where potential is loud but recognition isn’t.

Not Another Sponsorship Programme

Unlike traditional sponsorship, Red Bull Next Generation is positioned more like a long-term development Platform; focusing on athlete development, visibility and progression.

Instead of focusing purely on results, the programme looks at the full picture: mindset, profession, ambition, and commitment. Athletes don’t need to already be fully established – they need to be actively building in their sports and showing signs they’re going somewhere with it.

Selected athletes will receive tailored support including membership, workshops, media training, financial assistance, and visibility across Red Bull’s platforms. It’s a blend of performance, development, and storytelling, recognising that modern athletes are competing while they build presence, identity, and community along the way.

Adelene Tay, Head of Marketing, TCP Red Bull Malaysia, shared “Malaysia (is) one of the first markets to lead Red Bull Next Generation, we see this as an important opportunity to shine a spotlight on promising athletes and provide them with greater visibility and opportunities.”

The Next Generation Is Already Here

At the heart of the program is the belief that shapes its entire direction: the next wave of athletes isn’t coming – they’re already here.

They’re in early morning training, competing in local tournaments, building momentum in smaller scenes, posting progress online. Losing, learning, trying, and coming back stronger. But most of this is happening behind the scenes, that is where Red Bull Next Generation steps in: with sponsorship, institutional support and spotlight.

Built For All Sports

One of the biggest shifts with Red Bull Next Generation is how wide it goes. Adelene Tay, also shared, “Red Bull Malaysia has always been committed to energising the local sporting community, from supporting grassroots motorsports talent to providing platforms that inspire ambition, growth, and belief among the next generation of Malaysian athletes.”

This includes traditional competitive sports, emerging disciplines, local and regional sporting communities, and esports.

It doesn’t matter whether an athlete is already competing nationally or still building recognition in their city or local scenes. What Red Bull is interested in is trajectory.

Backed by Real Experts

The programme will also include guidance from Martin Pfeifenberger, a Performance Expert specialising in athlete training, recovery, and human performance. With more than 20 years of experience, Martin worked with elite athletes across 100 sports disciplines, from Formula 1 drivers to Olympic champions and top performers in endurance sports.

The focus for selected athletes is training smarter, recovering better, and building systems that support long-term performance.

It’s All in the Mindset

For Sigurd Meiche, Program Director for Red Bull Next Generation, the programme is less about visibility and more about who is still building.

“Across Southeast Asia, there are young athletes putting in the work everyday, often before anyone else is paying attention,” he said.

“Some are already competing at a high level, others are building momentum in their local scenes. What matters is the mindset, ambition, and commitment. Red Bull Next Generation is about finding those athletes early, supporting them at the moment it matters most, and helping them unlock what is possible in sports and beyond.”

After all, talent doesn’t appear overnight, and it doesn’t always arrive in the spotlight. Sometimes it’s already here waiting for someone to notice it early enough to matter.

Applications Now Open

Applications are now open to Malaysian athletes aged 18-25 across all sports and disciplines from June 2026. Athletes can apply here.

The first group of selected athletes will be announced in August 2026.
