Amid an ongoing investigation into the murder of Iris Hsieh (谢侑芯), Malaysian singer Namewee (黄明志) was facing separate charges for drug use and possession. However, it looks like the world will have to wait a little longer to find out what happens.
Earlier today (Thursday, 18th December 2025), news outlets reported that the magistrate has postponed Namewee’s court hearing for his drug-related charges after the singer failed to appear. The controversial media personality was supposed to appear at court today for the first hearing of his drug case. However, his lawyer revealed that he’s on sick leave due to influenza.

In October, police arrested the 42-year-old after finding several blue pills, believed to be ecstasy, in his possession during a hotel room raid. A subsequent drug test found him positive for a cocktail of drugs. Namewee faces charges of one count of drug possession and one count of drug use. He pleaded not guilty and was released on bail.
While Namewee wasn’t present at court, his lawyer, Joshua Tay, has submitted the necessary documents to inform the magistrate about his client’s sick leave. He also requested to reschedule the hearing after Namewee’s medical leave ends. The court has reportedly rescheduled the hearing for 22nd December 2025 (Monday).

It’s unknown whether Namewee faces conviction for the charges. However, the singer faces a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment for up to two years for drug possession. As for his drug use charge, he faces imprisonment for a term not less than two years but not exceeding five years, and whipping not less than three strokes but not more than nine strokes.
In the meantime, Namewee’s bail for Iris Hsieh’s murder investigation was extended until 11th January 2026, as authorities await the toxicology and autopsy reports. What are your thoughts on this?
