Malaysian-Korean influencer couple, DurianKimchi, is making waves online after husband, Ryzal Ibrahim, had recorded wife and son, Maryam You Na-rae and Rian, as they rushed the 16-month-old boy to the hospital following a fall that left him drifting in an out of consciousness.
In a video shared to social media, Ryzal was seen driving while recording his wife in the passenger seat of their vehicle as she patted their unconscious son’s back and screamed his name.

“Our hearts sank when we saw our own child unconscious after falling off the bed. He cried so hard before falling silent and closing his eyes as if he was going to sleep, he was unresponsive and we immediately took him to the Emergency room.”
“Maryam and I tried to not let Rian sleep all the way to the Emergency room but his body was completely unresponsive, his eyes were closed even though Maryam screamed his name as loud as she could!” Ryzal wrote.

Thankfully, the boy turned out fine as he was later shown to be responsive and playful.
Social media chatter
As the video went viral, many questioned Ryzal’s choice to record the journey to the hospital as it is an offence to operate or hold a mobile phone while driving, under Rule 17A of the Road Traffic Rules 1959.
Though, many pointed out that, in emergency situations, it is important to record a situation as a reference for healthcare personnel, capturing symptoms that may stop before a doctor sees them.

“Still managed to record while driving.”

“Not wearing seatbelt, recording while driving, reckless driving. So, JPJ Malaysia, what more proof is needed?”

While many have sympathised with the couple’s distress during what was clearly a frightening ordeal, the incident has also sparked important discussions about road safety and parental decision-making.
A question now remains on whether the decision to record while driving may have compromised road safety, regardless of the circumstances. Ultimately, the incident serves as a reminder that in moments of crisis, balancing the urgency of the situation with safety and responsibility remains paramount.
