It was a historic moment for Malaysian fashion!
The 8th of February, 2025, marked a groundbreaking moment in Malaysia’s fashion industry, as SVG Worldwide unveiled its first independent fashion show – Spring/Summer 2025 at The Yard, Sentul Depot.
At just 25 years old, designer Muhammad Ashraf Bin Khairul Anuar, known as Ashraf Anuar, made waves in the streetwear landscape, orchestrating an event that redefined the boundaries of fashion and storytelling.
Aptly titled “The Journey,” this collection encapsulated his artistic evolution, symbolising years of growth, experimentation, and perseverance. More than just a showcase, the event signified the brand’s transition into a new era of self-definition and creative independence.
While Ashraf had previously held fashion showcases, this was his biggest and most ambitious show to date, featuring a record-breaking 100 models on the runway, solidifying it as the largest standalone streetwear fashion show in Malaysia.
With an investment of RM3 million allocated across production, marketing, and design, this spectacle elevated the local fashion scene to new heights. To further enhance the experience, a curated retail activation at The Starhill from 9th to 16th February offered fashion enthusiasts exclusive access to limited-edition pieces from the collection. The runway show was also live-streamed, ensuring a global audience could witness this momentous occasion.
Ashraf Anuar: From RM50 To A Fashion Powerhouse
From humble beginnings to leading Malaysia’s largest standalone streetwear fashion show, Ashraf Anuar’s journey into the industry had been defined by resourcefulness and determination. At just 18, he began reselling vintage streetwear from thrift stores, often spending hours curating unique pieces.
With only RM50 in hand, he took a risk by printing his first batch of T-shirts, which sold out within days – a defining moment that laid the foundation for his brand. Through relentless effort and strategic branding, he transformed SVG Worldwide into a multimillion-ringgit enterprise. By 2025, the brand’s valuation exceeded RM5 million, reflecting not only its commercial success but also its significant cultural impact.
Ashraf’s design philosophy revolved around the fusion of street culture and storytelling. Each collection was meticulously crafted to convey a narrative, blending intricate graphic elements, three-dimensional illusions, and experimental textures. This commitment to conceptual depth and aesthetic innovation earned SVG Worldwide an avid following, both locally and internationally.
Fashion As A Medium For Cultural Discourse
Beyond aesthetics, Ashraf Anuar views fashion as a powerful platform for cultural discourse and social awareness. The show featured a special performance by renowned artist Faizal Tahir, paying tribute to Palestine and reinforcing SVG Worldwide’s broader commitment to advocacy through art. This emphasis on meaningful engagement highlighted Ashraf’s intent to merge fashion with larger societal narratives, setting his brand apart from conventional streetwear labels.
Ashraf’s previous runway experiments had already demonstrated his fearless approach to presentation. From debuting an entire collection on an 800-meter racetrack to pioneering immersive fashion show formats, he continuously defied industry norms. His ability to seamlessly integrate motorsport culture, contemporary aesthetics, and high fashion solidified his reputation as one of Malaysia’s most dynamic creative visionaries.
The Future Of SVG Worldwide
With “The Journey”, Ashraf Anuar not only cemented his status as a leading figure in Malaysia’s fashion industry but also set a new precedent for independent streetwear brands. By organising Malaysia’s largest standalone streetwear fashion show, featuring 100 models and an unprecedented RM3 million investment, he proved that homegrown brands could rival global fashion powerhouses.
This milestone will likely inspire other independent designers to pursue large-scale, high-production showcases, further elevating Malaysia’s fashion industry on the world stage. SVG Worldwide is no longer just a fashion label – it is a movement fueled by authenticity, innovation, and an uncompromising artistic vision.
By blending street culture with high fashion, pushing creative boundaries with unconventional runway presentations, and maintaining a strong social and cultural narrative, SVG Worldwide stands apart as a pioneering force in the industry. As the fashion world looks ahead, one thing is certain: this was just the beginning of Ashraf Anuar’s transformation of the global streetwear landscape.
