As luxury shifts away from logos and excess, heritage has become one of watchmaking’s most valuable currencies. Collectors are increasingly drawn to timepieces that offer both technical excellence and a sense of history and authenticity. Longines’ latest Conquest Heritage Central Power Reserve embodies that shift, proving that the past can still feel remarkably modern.

Continuing the evolution of a collection that has represented the brand’s spirit of innovation since 1954, the new release revisits one of Longines’ most distinctive historical complications through a thoroughly contemporary lens. With its light blue opaline dial, signature central power reserve display and refined proportions, the watch captures a growing appetite for objects that feel personal, purposeful, and rooted in enduring  design rather than passing trends.

A Heritage Complication

Longines’ relationship with the Conquest collection has always been defined by innovation. When the original Conquest launched in 1954, it became the first Longines collection to have its name officially protected by the Federal Intellectual Property Office in Bern, Switzerland, cementing its place in the maison’s history.

More than seven decades later, the Conquest Heritage Central Power Reserve revisits one of the collection’s most fascinating chapters: the 1959 Longines Conquest Automatic, which introduced a revolutionary approach to displaying power reserve.

Rather than placing the indicator within a traditional sub dial, Longines positioned the complication at the very centre of the watch. The new model faithfully revives this signature design through two rotating discs beneath a baton shaped indicator that tracks the remaining energy from “64” to “0” hours. As the watch winds down or replenishes its reserve, the display creates a sense of movement across the dial.

More than a technical flourish, the complication makes the movement itself part of the watch’s visual identity. It is a reminder that mechanical watchmaking is as much about experiencing time as it is measuring it, allowing the wearer to appreciate the rhythm of the calibre beneath the dial.

The Language of Understated Luxury

The latest iteration introduces a fresh light blue opaline dial, a colour that feels both contemporary and elegant. It reflects a broader cultural shift in how luxury and masculinity are increasingly expressed today. Across fashion, design, and popular culture– softer palettes have become associated with confidence, echoing the rise of a type of masculinity that values emotional intelligence, refinement, and a quieter self assurance over traditional displays of machismo.

Instead of oversized cases or aggressive styling, the watch projects confidence through proportion, craftsmanship, and restraint. Its muted blue dial feels sophisticated without being austere,  appealing to a new generation of collectors who increasingly view luxury as an expression of personal taste rather than social status.

The opaline dial is complemented by rhodium plated applied indexes and Longines’ signature “skyscraper” hands, while a distinctive trapezoid-framed date aperture at 12 o’clock preserves the symmetry of the display without overwhelming it.

Available with either a stainless-steel bracelet or a grey leather strap, the two configurations offer different interpretations of the same design philosophy. The bracelet version feels contemporary and versatile, complete with a micro-adjustment system for everyday comfort, while the leather strap leans further into the watch’s vintage character.

Together, these details create a timepiece that reflects today’s quieter definition of luxury, where authenticity, thoughtful design and craftsmanship carry greater weight than overt displays of wealth.

Precision Beneath The Surface

Beneath its elegant exterior sits Longines’ exclusive calibre L896.5, a self-winding mechanical movement developed to deliver both reliability and precision.

Equipped with a silicon balance spring, the movement offers enhanced resistance to magnetic fields and improved long-term accuracy while providing up to 72 hours of power reserve. It reflects Longines’ ongoing commitment to combining traditional Swiss watchmaking with contemporary engineering.

The 38 mm stainless steel case strikes an ideal balance between vintage proportions and modern wearability, finished with alternating satin-brushed and polished surfaces that subtly catch the light. A box-shaped sapphire crystal with multi-layer anti-reflective coating protects the dial, while a transparent screw down case back reveals the movement within, allowing enthusiasts to appreciate the mechanics powering the watch.

A Legacy That Keeps Moving

The Conquest Heritage Central Power Reserve continues a lineage that stretches back more than seven decades, from the original 1954 Conquest to the groundbreaking 1959 model that introduced its central rotating-disc power reserve display, the 2024 anniversary edition celebrating the collection’s 70th year, and now this latest interpretation for 2026.

Longines continues to revisit archival pieces, with measured restraint, allowing genuinely innovative ideas to find relevance with a new generation of collectors. The Central Power Reserve demonstrates that innovation is not always about creating something entirely new; sometimes it is about recognising a design that was ahead of its time and allowing it to speak to a different era.

In a market increasingly  drawn to meaning over spectacle, the Conquest Heritage Central Power Reserve stands as more than another heritage reissue. It reflects how contemporary luxury continues to evolve, placing greater value on provenance than novelty, craftsmanship than excess, and personal connection than performative status.

For Longines, whose reputation has long been built on precision, elegance, and innovation, the latest Conquest Heritage is both a continuation of its legacy and a confident expression of where the brand is headed next. Like the finest examples of Swiss watchmaking, it earns attention.
