Earning the title of a Guinness World Records holder is extremely challenging, but securing an entry in the Malaysia Book of Records is no easy feat either. To do so, one must either surpass an existing record or establish an entirely new one. Over the years, many of our local talents have earned entries in the Malaysia Book of Records, and it seems we have yet another achiever reaching this milestone.
Yesterday (Monday, 28th April), fashion designer Hatta Dolmat announced on Instagram that he has been recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records as the country’s first fashion designer to create a couture dress made of cake. How did he achieve it? Here’s his story:
In 2020, Hatta Dolmat entered the Malaysia Book of Records for being the first local designer to ever create a “complete sustainable collection”. He decided to step up his game by earning his second entry in the official record keeper in 2025. “Alhamdulillah, this marks my second national record with Malaysia Book of Records! This achievement would not have been possible without the incredible teamwork and collaboration across industries,” he captioned his post.
The local talent expressed his gratitude to his assistant designer, Salleh Hamid, as well as to Chef Azmir and Chef Saiful from Gula Cakery, who bravely took on the challenge. If creating a dress is difficult, then making one entirely out of cake is something few people could achieve, as it requires careful planning and highly skilled individuals to bring this vision to life.
“From reworking the cake structure to fit through doors, to custom-fitting the edible dress to the model, every detail was a true labour of passion. This dream to create something beyond the ordinary has finally become a reality. This is not just my success, but the success of everyone involved,” the artist added.
According to reports, the couture cake dress weighs about 90kg and was showcased during the recent KahwinFest 2025 fashion event. As seen in the photographs, the stunning dress may appear ordinary at first glance, but a closer look reveals the detailed craftsmanship and dedication involved in creating this project on a live model.
Fans and celebrity friends, including actresses Eyka Farhana and Fazura, singers Yuna and Yasmin Aziz, and musician Imran Azim, congratulated Hatta Dolmat on his latest historic achievement.
