People nowadays are becoming more aware of scammers and their tactics thanks to the internet. However, these tricksters can still be very smart and sneaky, especially when they have years experience on this. Regardless, once the victims and targets realise that something is off, they’ll confront these situations however they see appropriate.
Some would choose to directly confront the scammer face-to-face and get the authorities involved while others want the swindlers to get a taste of their own medicine. Who says dealing with scammers need to be stressful? Harith Iskander certainly enjoyed his time chatting with this “scammer” on social media.
Comedian Harith Iskander recently posted a series of Instagram posts of his experience talking to what he believed was a scam bot account. The Malaysian celebrity apparently received a DM from the account, posing to be a real person from South Korea. The message reads, “You are so [handsome] and smart, are you a [doctor] or [professor]?”. The comedian suspected that it was a bot after noticing the spelling errors in the text.
“Didn’t have the heart to correct the spelling of a bot account that sent me a DM…so I just went with the flow. I hope ‘it’ has a sense a [humour],” he captioned the post. As shown in the screenshot, being the comedian that he is, the 56-year-old replied to the DM with a pun. But the funny exchange didn’t end there.
In a second posting, the Godfather of Stand-Up Comedy continued to have a conversation with the bot; answering a question about his country of origin to which, again, he replied with a joke saying, “I’m from a little village of east of Swaziland, my father is the chief goat keeper”. It’s clear that the father-of-two was having fun with this little “confrontation” that even netizens were entertained.
Many netizens gave suggestions on what to say to the “scammer” while others suggested Harith should ask for donations or scam the scammer in return.
Whatever the case, please exercise caution when dealing with scammers in whatever form they may take. If something is too good to be true, it probably is.
