Grab Passenger Thought She Was Gonna Die While Her Driver Was Drunk Driving

Previously, the story of a young boy almost succeeding in stabbing a Grab driver shook the internet. It was then revealed that the passenger was unsatisfied with being yelled at by the driver during the ride but the reason why he had a knife on him the whole time remains a question mark.

While this recent incident may not be the same, it definitely was terrifying as it could’ve resulted in the death of both driver and passenger. A woman shared how scared she was by how fast the Grab driver was driving.

As reported by AsiaOne, a woman from Singapore was left traumatised after she got off her ride with her Grab driver earlier this week. According to the passenger, she was feeling unwell and booked a Grab ride home. At first, she was relieved to have been assigned a driver with a 5-star rating, believing that it would be a smooth ride to her house.

Unfortunately, the ride was anything but smooth. “The driver was going at 110kmh on the [Ayer Rajah] expressway. There were also turns, but he didn’t slow down and was swerving,” she said. The anonymous passenger also claimed that the vehicle reeked of alcohol. The poor woman chose not to tell the driver off fearing that he would react recklessly since it was just the two of them in the car.

“I texted my friend to pray that I wouldn’t die when I saw the speedometer. I was scared for my life even though I was wearing a seat belt.” Thankfully, the passenger arrived home in one piece, albeit traumatised by the experience. Unsatisfied, the unnamed individual contacted Grab to complain about the incident. Much to her disappointment, she was only offered a $SGD3 (RM10) reimbursement for her $SGD16 (RM56) ride.

The Singaporean woman was of course not satisfied with receiving just a reimbursement for her experience as she felt that the driver should be penalised for his recklessness. Grab, on the other hand, when contacted for further comment, said that they are currently investigating the situation.

According to Singapore’s Road Traffic Act, those who are guilty of drunk driving will receive a fine of up to $10k (RM35k) and be jailed for up to a year for the first offense. Repeat offenders can be fined up to $20k (RM70k) and jailed for up to two years.
