Shocking dashcam footage went viral on social media yesterday (27th November), showing the scene of a young Grab passenger attempting to stab the elderly driver. According to sources, the incident happened on the same day it went viral at Sungai Petani, Kedah, around 6:20pm.
The 1-minute-and-33-second footage was retrieved from the driver’s dashcam and it showed the driver, an elderly Chinese man, lamenting to a Malay boy. It seems that the two have been driving around a neighbourhood as requested by the boy, which the driver was unhappy about as it was interfering with his work.
Just as the man was about to let the boy down at a stop, the boy pulled out a small knife and attempted to stab the driver in the chest. Thankfully, the driver was unharmed as the weapon got caught by the seat belt. The driver then quickly reacted by grabbing the boy’s arms and forcing the knife out of his hands. The two struggled for a while before the young culprit made a hasty exit and fled the scene.
The scene shocked netizens, who were surprised by the boy’s bold move. Many were also angry that he would attempt such an attack at such a young age. Some also questioned his motive, wondering what prompted him to do such a thing. Netizens also expressed concern for the elderly victim, hoping that he was not seriously injured by the attack.
Through Facebook comments, the victim’s daughter-in-law revealed that he is in stable condition and did not sustain any injuries. She also revealed that the 13-year-old boy has been caught by authorities and is currently being detained. However, the woman did not share any additional information regarding the case.
As of writing, there is no additional information regarding the culprit or the victim, so the boy’s motive remains unknown. We can only hope the boy will receive the appropriate punishment for his dangerous actions.
