#GoldenGlobes: Who Would’ve Expected “The Martian” To Be A Comedy Winner?

Did last year’s highly successful sci-fi thriller “The Martian” just bag a Golden Globes award in the comedy category? For real? Why yes, yes it did.

It surprised even the film’s director, Ridley Scott, who looked nothing short of shell-shocked as he picked up the statue.

“The Martian” beat out “The Big Short”, “Joy”, “Spy”, and “Trainwreck” to win the award.

In his acceptance speech, he thanked “The Martian” star Matt Damon for “bringing his special brand of humour and grace” to the movie. Of course, Matt Damon was also recognised, bagging a “Best Actor in a Comedy” statue for his work as the stranded astronaut.

A couple of well-deserved wins also went to 2015 American epic biographical Western film “The Revenant”, helmed by director Alejandro G. Inarritu with Leonardo DiCaprio as lead.

The film beat out “Carol”, “Mad Max: Fury Road”, “Room”, and “Spotlight” for the “Best Motion Picture – Drama” statue. In his acceptance speech, Alejandro confessed, “I cannot say how surprised I am and how proud I am to have survived this film with all these fellows.”

Let’s not forget that Leonardo DiCaprio, too, picked up a Golden Globe for his role in “The Revenant” – “Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama”. Watch Leo’s acceptance speech below:

Unsurprisingly, “Inside Out“, Disney-Pixar’s story of a young girl’s warring emotions, scored “Best Animated Feature Film”, while on the TV front, hacker thriller “Mr. Robot” bagged “Best TV Series – Drama”.
