It was reported that Elliot Page, formerly called Ellen Page, has filed for divorce from his wife Emma Portner. This was after Page came out to his fans that he was transgender. The “Umbrella Academy” actor has apparently filed the divorce papers somewhere in Manhattan, New York. Their marriage has been going on for three years but has now come to a close.
The Canadian couple stated together, “After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce following our separation last summer“. They went on to say, “We have the utmost respect for each other and remain close friends“.
The 33-year-old Oscar nominee from movies like “Juno”, “Inception”, and the recent Netflix hit series “The Umbrella Academy” together with Portner, who is a 26-year-old dance teacher and choreographer, made an announcement of their marriage in early 2018. This only came after hinting at their relationship on social media.
Portner was very supportive of Page’s decision to come out as transgender last December, which was a huge heartfelt and tearful moment for the transgender community in Hollywood.
Portner’s support for Page can be seen in her repost on Page’s announcement on Instagram, stating that she was “so proud” of him for coming out.
She voiced her support for the LGBTQ community stating, “Trans, queer and non-binary people are a gift to this world“, Portner also reassured fans and supporters, “I also ask for patience and privacy but that you join me in the fervent support of trans life every single day. Elliot’s existence is a gift in and of itself. Shine on sweet E. Love you so much“.
