There is a saying that “honesty is the best policy”. If nothing else, it saves you from the fallout following your lies.
Yesterday (12th April), Chef Wan publicly expressed his disappointment in his only daughter who got married without his knowledge. Today the heartbreak continues, as Serina’s husband was found to have married Serina before divorcing his 1st wife.
Actress and TV host Serina Redzuawan announced her marriage to Meor Mohammad Aidid Meor Jamaluddin officially on Instagram on 9th April. Shortly after the announcement, Aidid’s former first wife Nur Hamizah Shaffee stepped forward with some shocking news. She claimed that Aidid and Serina had tied the knot when he was still legally married to her.
Nur Hamizah was stupefied when her ex-husband informed her about the marriage. According to her, they had led a happy life, only separated occasionally for work. She suspected the wedding happened during the 3rd week of February. She was informed of the marriage on 18th February and they later divorced on 9th March.
This has only fueled Chef Wan’s (real name Datuk Redzuawan Ismail) righteous anger. The celebrity chef had his suspicions when he first meet his son-in-law. As such, he had asked Serina to wait before marrying Aidid. “I looked at his face and said, “Please don’t lie to me if you (have) already divorced your first wife or not,” the chef said, recalling the meeting. “If you are not happy and it’s time to move on, I can understand.”
At that time, Chef Wan was willing to overlook his past as he only wanted the truth. However, the pain caused by the couple’s betrayal has hardened his heart. “If (the couple) had laid everything on the table from the beginning, things would never had gotten so complicated,” the chef stated. “A lesson to all for not being truthful to themselves!”
Although Chef Wan was hurt by his daughter’s actions, the celebrity chef still has it in him to joke around. During a visit to the doctor’s, he jokingly asked her to check his heart. The chef claimed he was suffering from a “pained and saddened heart“. He also told the doctor he had a broken heart because “my daughter has been taken away“. The doctor, in good humour, responded with: “Aiyo, aiyo is that why you are here? Don’t be troubled, your (blood) pressure might shoot up!”
While Chef Wan is thankfully in good health, the same cannot be said for Serina and Aidid’s marriage. Aidid is currently being investigated by the Department of Integrity and Compliance Standards (JIPS) for allegedly marrying a second wife without permission. According to Perak police chief Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid, the case will be handled by JIPS Perlis as Aidid, who is an inspector, had moved to the state in 2019.
Chef Wan himself has no sympathy for the newly weds. “If you’re brave enough to (lie), then face the consequences,” he said. In other words, you made your own bed. Now, lie in it.
