Nowadays, complete radio silence from people can be scary. For Taiwanese internet celeb 雅典娜Liya (AthenaLiya), real name 孔麗梅 (transliteration: Kong Limei), her silence online has left people suspecting she’s been kidnapped!
The second runner up of Miss World Macau 2021 drew plenty of attention last year, thanks to her placement in the pageant and her looks. However, no one expected AthenaLiya to vanish in April this year, before rumours started spreading, claiming she had been kidnapped in the Philippines!
Earlier this year, Liya had been uploading photos and videos of herself enjoying her time overseas. Her last known location before she vanished online was the Philippines, when she uploaded a video of herself there on 23rd April via 小红书 (Xiao Hong Shu). But, shortly afterwards, nothing more was heard from Liya online. This led to netizens alleging she had been kidnapped while in the Philippines.
To make matters worse, photos and videos of a woman being abused were released online which added fuel to the fire. But, her friend reportedly refuted the rumour of her having been kidnapped in April, claiming Liya had asked them to accompany her on a holiday together in May. But the same friend alleged that their plans had fallen through as Liya had work, and shortly afterwards, they too lost contact with Liya.
However, the head of the Chamber of Commerce in Chaosan recently confirmed that AthenaLiya had indeed been kidnapped and that her last known location was the Philippines. Still, they denied that the abused woman in the photos and videos was her. Currently, authorities are reportedly working on rescuing her, but, have declined to disclose the details of their plan.
Netizens have since left messages on her socials, wishing for her safe return home. We too hope AthenaLiya is safe, wherever she is and that she will be able to return home soon.
