Many celebrities have opened up about the hardships of being part of the entertainment industry, shedding light on the dark side of the industry behind the glitz and glamour. Malaysian singer Alvin Chong (鍾瑾樺) also recently shared his thoughts about the entertainment world, revealing that he almost said goodbye to the industry.
The singer, also known as ALVN, recently held a listening session for his new album “between the lines”. During the event, he answered a few questions from the attending media, opening up about his inspiration for the new album, his career, and his thoughts about the entertainment industry. One of the things he spoke about was how difficult it was to find genuine friendships within the industry, which even drove him to contemplate quitting.

According to Alvin, he finds it hard to build friendships with other celebrities due to past experiences of being backstabbed. He lamented that he had previously experienced so-called “friends” slowly ignoring him and cutting off relations without reason. However, the 33-year-old said he then realised that these individuals were merely using him for publicity and weren’t genuinely interested in being his friend, which is why many of his friendships never last long.
He also said that he’s noticed the “toxic” side of many of his fellow entertainers, revealing that many have spread gossip about other celebrities behind their backs. Alvin admitted that those experiences had negatively affected him, pushing him to consider quitting the entertainment industry. Thankfully, the star found his motivation to continue pursuing this career, using music and songwriting as an outlet to express himself.
Alvin’s new album is his first full-length release since making his debut in the local entertainment scene over a decade ago. The first single is titled “Rescue Me” and is about the difficulties of finding lasting relationships. The song was composed by renowned producers Hyuk Shin and Seann Bowe, who co-wrote the song with Alvin.

It must’ve been a difficult journey for Alvin to get to where he is now – but we’re sure everything was worth it in the end, given his many recent successes.
