We’ve heard many stories of delivery riders being heroes. There’ve been stories about their good deeds like the one rider who rescued a woman from being mugged. Or you might remember another rider who spoke out against his peers’ poor treatment toward disabled customers.
While most of them are generally kind-hearted people, there are also some who have given delivery riders a bad name. Take, for instance, this incident that occurred recently in a cafe in Penang where an angry rider was caught on camera throwing items at the staff.
Fumi Honey House, a cafe in Penang, recently posted a CCTV recording on their official Facebook page of an incident that took place at their establishment late last month. The footage showed a Foodpanda delivery rider throwing a few items at the female staff after he was late to pick up an order.
According to the post, the cafe received an order from a customer that had been waiting for 30 minutes but the originally assigned rider was not there to pick it up on time. The staff members then notified the system about the delay and a new rider was assigned to deliver the customer’s order. The original rider finally arrived after 45 minutes and brought a friend along with him.
Apparently, it was said that the delivery person was unsatisfied that he was replaced and in a fit of rage, started throwing one of the drinks on the counter at the cafe staff members, startling in the process. One of the employees asked the rider to remain calm and that his behaviour will not be tolerated. Still unsatisfied, the rider challenged the cafe to call the authorities after throwing a menu at the female staff.
Fumi Honey House clarified that they do not have the authority to replace riders and that they were only concerned about the customer having to wait longer for the order. The eatery filed a police report but unfortunately, nothing can be done as there was no property damage nor anyone injured during the altercation.
At the time of writing, Foodpanda has yet to release a statement regarding the incident. Watch the full video below:
