This week, the internet was abuzz after videos showing the Kuala Lumpur City Council (DBKL) officers seizing the items from stalls operating without official business permits at a Ramadan bazaar in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman (Jalan TAR) went viral on social media. The clip was posted on Twitter by user Akeem Sharyzal.
The Twitter user also shared a video of vendors carting their stalls away as soon as they saw the officers patrolling the area. “Poor thing. But then again, other Ramadan bazaar traders have paid for their permits,” Akeem tweeted. The post has amassed over 2.4k retweets at the time of writing (Wednesday, 5th April).

@malaysiagazette Situasi menjadi kecoh apabila pihak DBKL telah merampas barang milik peniaga yang dikatakan tidak mempunyai lesen yang sah untuk berniaga di kawasan Jalan Tar sempena bazar Aidilfitri. Video: Orang Awam #malaysiagazette #mgnews #bazaraidilfitri #jalantar #DBKL #dbklrampas
Several clips capturing the intense episode have since made its way online. In the video that was posted on Malaysia Gazette’s TikTok, we can see some displeased stall owners who were trying to fight back the authority officials. They could be heard saying, “Let’s fight. We don’t have that many people here. What are you going to do if you arrest us? Stupid coward.”
The video has been flooded with numerous responses from netizens. Most of them didn’t react too kindly to the stall owners’ attitude towards the DBKL officers on duty. To quote one commentator, “Why would you want to be mad at the DBKL officers when it’s actually your fault?” Meanwhile, another added, “This shows the difference between educated people and the uneducated.”
Many also agreed to the DBKL seizing the stalls without business permits. “(What these illegal vendors have done) is not fair towards those who have paid for their permits. Well done, DBKL!” one user on TikToker remarked.
