Two months prior to its release, the upcoming local horror film, “Pulau”, has already received tons of criticisms after the official trailer was uploaded on YouTube last week on Friday (13th January).
The movie features a lineup of many famous celebrities, including Alif Satar, Amelia Henderson, Ikmal Amry, and also our favourite influencer couple Ms Puiyi and Mark O’Dea. However, the release of the movie’s trailer has stirred up a heated debate on social media. Most of them have taken to social media to slam the movie for its supposedly “sexually explicit” content.
Following the massive backlash from the public, three of the aforementioned actors of the movie have since come forward to address the controversy. Speaking to Harian Metro, Alif clarified that he’s not involved in any of the racy scenes in the movie. “I’m very happy that the director understands me. He didn’t include me in those scenes. I was surprised because they also knew about my limits.”
Meanwhile, Ikmal told Kosmo, “I wasn’t involved in any inappropriate scenes in the film. I only took my shirt off to swim.” The “Hero Remaja” alum also appeared to clap back at the haters who condemned the movie. He said, “There’re a lot of YouTube videos with similar steamy scenes. If you leave a comment, it means that you chose to watch it. If you don’t like it, then I suggest you don’t watch the movie. Don’t judge me for something that I’ve never done.”
Amelia also appeared to share the same sentiment as her co-star. “They have to watch the movie first and see what type of character I portray in the film. However, if they’ve watched (the trailer) and felt that the movie is not suitable to all audience, then don’t watch it.” Furthermore, the podcaster also stated that she was only focused on her role in the film.
What do you think of the backlash surrounding the movie?
