Many have argued that becoming a content creator is a “shortcut” to earn “easy money”. While some claimed to have earned up to RM20k a month on TikTok, it’s not always going to be a walk in the park as you’d still need to compete with other creatives to attract more viewers.
Nevertheless, social media has undeniably become a source of income for many. For old-time performers who may not be getting as many jobs as they used to, doing livestreams can actually help them earn some extra cash. That’s exactly what helped this veteran entertainer to live a comfortable life.
During an interview with a local news outlet earlier this week, “Senario” star Azlee Jaafar shared how grateful he is to have fans supporting him on his social media pages. The comedian revealed that his online platforms, more specifically TikTok, have become his other source of income, apart from his usual work as an entertainer.
“I’m still learning. My friend introduced me to TikTok and suggested that I use it to do live broadcasts and chat with fans. They told me that I could earn money from the platform and I was touched that a lot of fans were willing to send ‘Gifts’ to me,” said the 56-year-old. He also clarified that he never once asked or begged his fans to send those ‘Gifts’ during any of his livestreams.
The “Sumpahan Syaitan” star then disclosed that he could earn up to RM15k a month from doing TikTok Lives. “I don’t go Live all the time but I try to set a goal for myself like maybe RM500 for that [scheduled] day. There’d be days where I could get RM8.5k within 5 minutes into the livestream. I’d withdraw the money at the end of the month to help pay my monthly commitments,” he added.
Azlee also encouraged every performer in Malaysia, especially veterans, to use their social media platforms to their advantage in generating a side income. “It can definitely help us old-timers. It’s good to know that we still have fans who love us and want to share their blessings with us.” We’re glad to hear that the actor is still doing pretty well and adapting to the new media.
