Durian, dubbed the “King of Fruits” is known for its delightfully distinguishing pungency, chewy texture, and lengthy finish aftertaste. Durian lovers are in luck because we are currently in the middle of a durian supply spike. Bumper harvests from plantations in the Malaysian states of Pahang, Johor and Genting Highlands have resulted in plummeting durian prices.

While durian is addictively delicious, it does have some downsides. On Twitter, Doctor Samhan recounted a case where a patient arrived at his clinic unable to walk, appearing pale and sweating heavily after consuming durian and coffee together.

“As durian is rich in sulphur and carbohydrates, while coffee contains caffeine, which can lead to dehydration. When combined, they can provoke bad reactions in the body. Similar effects as coffee include alcohol, carbonated drinks, oily or spicy foods, milk, dairy products, and high-protein foods. So, for all durian lovers out there, remember to be careful what you combine with durian. While delicious, it can cause harm if combined improperly,” he said.
