Discovering a body of a murder victim is horrifying enough, but facing the suspected murderer shortly after they committed the crime can lead to the witness being a victim themself. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case for this individual who reported a murder after chasing the suspect down.
Photos and videos of a tragic incident that happened in Kuala Terengganu were circulated online yesterday (Thursday, 10th August). In a Whatsapp screenshot, a motorcyclist shared that they chased after a suspicious taxi that hit another car on the road as it was going against traffic. The vehicle eventually stopped on the side of the road nearby the Seberang Takir Health Clinic.
The eyewitness then confronted the driver whose face was covered in blood. They believed a murder took place in the taxi as the suspect was spacing out, possibly tired from committing the horrid act. Upon closer inspection, the motorcyclist and other passersby noticed a motionless body in the back seat of the car. It was said that the driver even confessed to the murder.
It was reported that local authorities received a distress call at around 10:56pm and a team was immediately dispatched to the scene. Through their investigation, they confirmed the witness’s claims that a man in his early 50s was lying motionless in the back seat of the vehicle in a pool of blood with injuries on his neck. It was suspected that he was murdered by his passenger, a 29-year-old man who was sitting in the driver’s seat.
Police apprehended the suspect who was sitting quietly at the scene surrounded by witnesses and passersby. Kuala Terengganu District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rahim told reporters that the victim died at the scene while the suspect sustained minor injuries on his fingers. He also mentioned that a knife was found on the foot of the driver’s seat and has been confiscated as evidence.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. If found guilty, the suspect will receive the death penalty. At the time of writing, neither the Kuala Terengganu District Police nor the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) released an official statement regarding the case.
