Although unfortunate, TV series cancellations are a common occurrence in the industry. They may happen due to budget constraints, low viewership, contractual disagreements, or simply because the network chooses to move on to bigger, more profitable projects.

Many beloved series have been axed over the years, but how would you react if the star of the show had a breakdown after receiving the news? That’s exactly what happened, and here’s how the internet responded after seeing this usually cheerful, adorable character in tears following the heartbreaking announcement:

“The Tiny Chef Show” is a stop-motion children’s TV series on Nickelodeon that follows the life of its main character, Tiny Chef, who creates new recipes to cook for his friends. The show premiered in 2022 and has since won several Children’s and Family Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Directing for a Preschool Animated Programme and Outstanding Preschool Animated Series.

Recently, the team behind “The Tiny Chef Show” received the unfortunate news from the network that the beloved series would not be renewed for a 4th season. In response to the announcement, they animated Tiny Chef himself reacting to the news. In a video posted on their official social media accounts, the adorable green humanoid character is seen cleaning his home when he receives a phone call. Delighted to hear it’s Nickelodeon on the line, he excitedly begins sharing ideas for future episodes, unaware of the sad news to come.

He tries to bargain with the company after being told that the show has been cancelled, even expressing concern for his friends. But once he realises there is little he could do, he accepts the decision with grace, telling the network, “I love you, too” before ending the call. What makes the short clip especially heartbreaking is the moment Tiny Chef attempts to return to cleaning, only to drop his feather duster and break down in tears on his bed.

The social media post instantly went viral, with fans and even those who had never heard of the series expressing their grief and sympathy for both the character and the show. The majority urged Nickelodeon to un-cancel the show, while others praised the creators for animating Tiny Chef’s emotional breakdown in a heartfelt bid to rally public support in hopes that it could help change the network’s mind. Many also pointed out how much love and passion went into the project since the team made an effort to animate the character reacting to the cancellation news.

At the time of writing, Nickelodeon has yet to respond to the public backlash. As for the production team, they thanked the fans for their overwhelming support over the years and expressed gratitude to the network for giving them the opportunity to grow. So what happens next? If Nickelodeon stands firm on their decision, “The Tiny Chef Show” will now have to rely on crowdfunding to continue the project.

Here’s the viral clip:

SOS Cheffers, please go to the link our bio to learn how you can help us keep Chef on social media. Tiny chefs cooking show has officially been cancelled (very unexpected) and without the support of a major network we need crowd funding to keep cookin’ over here. Yesh this es weal! We want to thank @nickelodeon for giving Chef two blamazing seasons and all the besties he made there. Chef wouldn’t want anyone to blame his friends over there, he’s just deeply sad he doesn’t get to continue hosting a show he adores. Please let cheffy know how much he means to you in the comments he’s really feelin this one.
