What happens when wildlife unexpectedly appears in the heart of a bustling city? Following recent heavy rains in Kuala Lumpur, an unexpected visitor made waves—literally—in the Klang River. A rare sighting has left residents both amused and concerned, sparking curiosity about how this creature ended up in an urban stream.

People are used to spotting monitor lizards in the area, but this time was different. Bystanders witnessed a crocodile swimming in a river near Mid Valley City area, leaving many wondering—what really happened?

On 20th February 2025 (Thursday), a crocodile was spotted in the Klang River near Mid Valley Megamall in Kuala Lumpur, capturing the attention of locals and netizens alike. The sighting occurred under the KL Eco City bridge connecting to the shopping complex, an area where such wildlife appearances are uncommon.

The initial report came from a user on Twitter, @sangratu18, who shared a video of the reptile with the caption, “Usually see monitor lizards. Today is a bit of an upgrade.” The post quickly gained traction, amassing approximately 600,000 views by the evening of the same day.

In response to the sighting, authorities, including the National Parks Department, Kuala Lumpur City Hall, and the Civil Defence Department, were dispatched to the location. Efforts to capture the crocodile involved deploying a boat into the river and setting traps to safely secure the animal. However, it’s reported that the efforts failed as the crocodile escaped.

The incident prompted many reactions on social media. Some netizens responded with humour, joking that they would stop by to see the crocodile because it reminded them of home in Sarawak. Others took a more optimistic view, suggesting that the sighting could be a positive sign that the river is clean enough to support such wildlife. What do you think about this unusual phenomenon?
