McLaren 720S Double Parked In Kuching But Netizens Are “Defending” Owner’s Actions

There seems to be a recurring issue with luxury car owners failing to park properly. Earlier this year, a red Ferrari was caught illegally parked outside Setia City Mall in Shah Alam. Prior to that, a certain CEO admitted to inconsiderately parking his McLaren at the rear entrance of a high-end condominium in Mont Kiara, though he did not apologise for the inconvenience caused that day.

Another luxury car owner, who also happens to own a McLaren, was recently spotted double-parking in an outdoor parking lot. Normally, netizens would be upset about this sort of behaviour, but that wasn’t necessarily the case here. Here’s why:

The admin of the Mother Parker Facebook page posted several photos of a silver, limited edition McLaren 720S model double-parked near Jalan Tun Jugah in Kuching, Sarawak. Surprisingly, netizens were not entirely outraged by the driver taking up extra space. Instead, the photos attracted numerous car enthusiasts who “defended” the owner’s actions by explaining how a McLaren functions.

Some suggested that the driver and their passengers would need more space to exit the vehicle, as it has gullwing doors, which open upwards like wings. Others speculated that the owner likely didn’t want to risk accidentally hitting or scratching other cars and preferred to avoid others doing the same, knowing how expensive their car is. If you’re curious, a McLaren 720S model can cost up to RM2.6 million, depending on the variant, according to WapCar. On Carlist, on the other hand, it can cost up to RM2.3 million, depending on the variant as well.

“Knowing how the car doors work, it definitely needed more space. I’m not even complaining,” one netizen wrote, while another added, “This is acceptable. Nice car. Deserve two spaces to protect all parties’ peace of mind.” Of course, there were a few who did not appreciate the driver’s inconsiderate behaviour in double parking.

Although many understand why the McLaren owner parked their supercar in this way, it still doesn’t excuse their actions, as double parking remains illegal. Perhaps one day, there will be designated parking spaces for luxury cars with special doors.
