Mandopop icon Jay Chou (周杰倫) recently celebrated his 24th debut anniversary. In those years, he has released 15 albums and hundreds of songs, many of which became timeless hits. However, the singer admits that recording these albums and songs hasn’t been easy.
Earlier this week, Jay Chou updated his Instagram, revealing he was working on new music. In his post, the singer briefly mentioned that he has been busy recording songs following a break to focus on his ongoing tour. However, the 45-year-old then revealed his struggles when in the recording booth. According to the superstar, he takes a long time to record a song because he doesn’t want to rely on external programmes to “perfect” his singing.

Jay Chou admits that he’ll sing each sentence until he deems it a good take, even if it takes him a long time. He also said he doesn’t want to rely on Auto-Tune unless the song requires the software programme. Funnily enough, the star also doesn’t know why he insists on not using Auto-Tune, admitting the software could make the recording process faster. However, he said he’s never used such programmes since releasing his first album.
Many fans have since reacted to the post, showing awe at the singer’s persistence and commitment to his music. Some also expressed surprise that the singer has never digitally modified his voice because his singing always sounds great in his albums. On the other hand, many fans also said they look forward to hearing his new music, hoping he’ll perform the new songs during his upcoming concerts.

It’s worth noting that Auto-Tune is a common practice in the music industry, and many notable singers use the software to get the best results when recording. However, Jay Chou deserves praise for his dedication towards his music, even going as far as to do multiple recordings just for that one perfect take.
