Just because someone starts out as a singer, it doesn’t mean they can’t explore other opportunities. After gaining experience as idols, many K-pop stars seek to challenge themselves and test their skills in different areas, such as mentoring, entrepreneurship, or even acting.
Speaking of acting, many idols have made a name for themselves as on-screen performers over the years. For this list, however, we will focus on those who have recently embarked on or are about to begin their new acting adventures. In no particular order, here are the K-pop idols who made their acting debuts so far this year:
1. OMEGA X’s Hangyeom (한겸)
Not only did OMEGA X’s Hangyeom make his acting debut earlier this year but he took it up a notch by being one of the main stars in a BL drama series titled “Jazz For Two”. The idol played the character Do-Yoon, who had to face his internal struggles and feelings towards another character Joo-ha who was played by Kim Jung-ha.
2. Eunbi (권은비)
Just like BLACKPINK’s Lisa, soloist Eunbi will be making her acting debut by starring in an international film. The singer will be playing one of the main characters in the Japanese thriller-mystery “Stolen Identity: The Last Hacker”, which is the third instalment of the “Stolen Identity” franchise. The film will be released later this November.
3. TWICE’s Dahyun (다현)
TWICE member Dahyun is gearing up for her onscreen debut with the upcoming indie film “Sprint”. Not only that, but she’ll also star in the Korean adaptation of the popular Taiwanese romance “Apple Of My Eye” alongside singer Jinyoung. Check out the trailer for the latter film:
4. Kim Dongbin (김동빈)
Former “Produce 101” contestant Kim Dongbin is having a hard time debuting as an idol but his efforts to shine in the spotlight did entirely go to waste. While he’s still working hard to debut as a singer, he seized the opportunity to debut as an actor. Dongbin is set to showcase his acting chops in the upcoming BL series “As A Gangster, I Got A Boyfriend. As A Gangster, I Got A Boyfriend”. There’s no official date yet but according to reports, it will be released sometime later this year.

1. BLACKPINK’s Lisa (리사)
Lisa has been doing quite well with her solo music project. Her singles “Rockstar” and “New Woman” received notable praise from fans and critics. Apart from new music, the BLACKPINK rapper will soon be showcasing her acting chops as she has joined the cast of “The White Lotus”. The filming of the third season of the popular series took place in Thailand where the idol is from so it’s no surprise that she’s the perfect person to represent her country. Unlike the other idols on this list, Lisa will make her acting debut next year.
2. Lee Ha Eum (이하음)
Although she’s not an idol herself, we believe she’s still worth mentioning. TWICE’s Jihyo’s younger sister, Lee Ha Eum made her acting debut as one of the main leads in a GL (Girls Love) K-drama titled “Tendering Resignation”, which is based on the Yuri Manhwa of the same name.
