Taiwanese actress Joe Chen (陳喬恩) has been married to her Malaysian husband Alan Chen (曾伟昌) for two years, and the couple recently had their grand wedding ceremony in Langkawi. Naturally, married couples have to face questions about starting a family, almost to the point of being pressured. However, it appears Joe isn’t going to let netizens bully her into having kids.
The 45-year-old recently held a Q&A session through her Instagram account. One of the common topics during the session was about having kids, with many asking whether Joe and Alan are planning on starting a family. In response to this question, the celeb admitted she lacks the patience to get along with children. In addition, Joe mentioned her age and said there could be risks of having children in her mid-40s.
However, towards the end of her answer, Joe expressed her annoyance at netizens pressuring her to have kids. She asked, “Why is it important for a woman to have children?” arguing that childbearing should be a personal choice and not an obligation. She then schooled those who nagged her to have kids, saying, “If you like children, then go ahead and give birth. If you don’t, then don’t have it. Is it really that difficult?”.
Joe’s response also reflects the other comments urging her to get pregnant since she tied the knot with Alan. Many even said it’s her responsibility towards her in-laws. The actress previously responded to these comments, saying that having a baby isn’t her priority and that her life is still wholesome without any children. She also slammed the meddling netizens, saying it’s none of their business whether or not she has a child.
During the same Q&A session, Joe also answered questions about long-distance relationships and how she maintains a good relationship with her husband. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with asking whether a married couple will have children, but there is a line between curious and naggy. Whatever Joe and Alan choose to do, let’s respect their decision.
