As many Malaysians know, actress Diana Danielle recently went through a very public divorce from ex-husband Farid Kamil that became final via Google Meet. Just days after the divorce, the actress seemed much happier and had even begun hanging out with friends – but netizens think she should tone it down.
Recently, the 31-year-old posted a few pictures of herself on her Instagram account, with the photos taken to mimic the point-of-view of a person on a date with the actress. The caption for the post writes, “POV: you’re on a date with me” and includes tags of a few of Diana’s acquaintances. While the photos and the post seemed innocent, it didn’t sit well with many netizens.
Many Muslims who saw the photos believed that the celebrity was not respecting her iddah period, or the period observed by a woman after a divorce or the death of her husband. The iddah period that the woman must observe is typically three months, but there are different interpretations. Working women are also typically excused from iddah but only if they have work or if it is necessary.
As her divorce from her ex-husband, Farid finalised just last week, many believed that Diana should not be going out or hanging out with friends out of respect for her iddah period. Some comments reminded the actress that she is still Muslim and should respect the rules of her religion. Other comments on the post included praises and compliments for the mother of two, especially about her looks.
Since some netizens were advising the actress out of concern, we hope Diana will still gracefully accept them.
