It’s not uncommon to see neighbours quarreling, however in most cases, the issue can be resolved in a peaceful manner. However, some confrontations with neighbours have gotten so extreme that authorities had to get involved.
Rather than talking it out, these two neighbours in Johor decided to resort to violence to settle their loud dispute, much to the concern form other residents. Here’s what happened:
Yesterday (Sunday, 16th July), a video was posted on the 我们是马来西亚人 We are Malaysians Facebook page showing a very loud and violent altercation between two neighbours at an apartment building in Tampoi, Johor. In the video posted, the man in the white shirt was seen shouting at an Indian family with a large stick in his hand.
The dispute was apparently over loud noises coming from the residents in the apartment unit seen in the video. The incident quickly escalated as the armed man started thrashing his neighbour’s shoe rack in front of their door. While all of this was happening, the other residents in the building were seen recording the shout fest while also trying to calm the situation down.
However, their attempt to defuse the argument was unsuccessful as the angry resident in the apartment unit came out and attempted to throw the broken shoe rack at the man in white before punching him in the face. The video then abruptly ended. After the post went viral on social media, netizens were simultaneously confused, amused and concerned at the altercation.
Many found it unnecessary for the neighbours to be fighting over something so trivial, especially in front of young children. Others advised to get the police involved if things were getting out of hand. Some commented that they found the whole thing entertaining.
At the time of writing, it is unknown if the police were called to the scene to handle the situation. There is currently no update from the admin of the Facebook page. Let this be a reminder to us all to respect our neighbours and peacefully discuss any issues with them to avoid things from escalating for the worse.
