Travelling by flight means you’ll definitely come home with some very interesting stories to share with your family and friends. You never know what might happen or who you might encounter when you’re high up in the air. If you’re lucky, you might meet a famous celebrity on the same flight as you.
If you’re on the not-so-fortunate side, you might witness a huge argument between the cabin crew and some MMA fighters. We’ve also heard stories from passengers about their unpleasant experiences with the aircraft itself, like this passenger who thinks this local airline needs some serious upgrading.

Yesterday (Monday, 20th February), Facebook user Edward Yong posted several photos of his flight back to Kuala Lumpur from Taipei with a caption that reads, “I feel so embarrassed. Foreigners must be thinking they are going to a very backward country. Planes are held together with tape. WTF. International flight!!”
In the photos shared by the user, we can see that the armrests of the seats on the AirAsia plane were held together with bright yellow tape, as described in the caption. The post managed to attract a lot of attention from netizens, now reaching over 1k comments and 2.3k shares at the time of writing. Netizens all gave their thoughts on the situation.

While many showed concern for the passengers’ safety, they also found it humourous that this is how AirAsia chose to “fix a maintenance problem”. Given AirAsia’s incompetent track record in recent years, some netizens weren’t all that surprised by the airline’s peculiar approach to keeping the aircraft from falling apart.

As for the actual real reason why the seats’ armrests were taped, one netizen speculated that it’s due to the plane’s poor condition after being in storage for 2 years during the Covid-19 lockdown. However, AirAsia has yet to release a statement regarding the issue.
It is also currently unknown if Edward or any of the passengers on board that flight filed a complaint to the company. Let’s hope that the plane’s exterior was also not held together by tape as well.
