It’s time for some season’s beatings. Question is – are you on Santa’s good or naughty list? Unlike your typical Christmas movies, “Violent Night” is said to be a hybrid of “Die Hard’ and “Bad Santa” – offering a combo of gore and Christmas magic.
Much like the title of this action comedy, David Harbour doesn’t hold back as a vengeful Santa Clause. A word of caution, you’ll probably not look at candy cane and hammer the same way again after watching “Violent Night”. Intrigued yet?
Ever since it premiered at New York Comic Con, “Violent Night” has been getting raved reviews from critics and movie buffs. Directed by Norwegian filmmaker Tommy Wirkola, “Stranger Things” star David Harbour portrays Kris Kringle, who appears to be anything but jolly. When a team of mercenaries breaks into a family compound on Christmas Eve and take them hostage, a (Not-So) Saint Nick decides to take things into his own hands.
“When I talked to David, he had a lot of great ideas, and I knew he could really make this special. And David, obviously is a great actor, has heart and humour,” said Tommy Wirkola. “David has great physicality and he really wanted to train for it and do the action himself, to embrace it. Without spoiling anything, Santa’s backstory kind of plays into how he trained. And he really went all in. Harbour is an actor who gives everything and I really think you’ll see that he did something special.”
