A group of Hindu activists in India recently conducted a cow urine-drinking party in an attempt to fight the Covid-19 (coronavirus) outbreak. As you may know, the four-legged creature is widely considered sacred among the religious community.
Over 200 participants were in attendance during the fest held in New Delhi over the weekend. Organised by the local Indian Hindu Union, they further expressed their hopes that similar event will take place across the country.
Some of the locals were also seen dunking themselves in a pool filled with the animal’s faeces. “We’ve been drinking cow pee for over 21 years. Plus, we bathe ourselves in cow dung. We don’t feel the need to take any prescribed medicines,” one of the participants, Om Prakash, told the press.
Even the leader of Hindu nationalist party, who is also the current Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, has advocated for the widespread use of the animal’s urine as a cure for cancer as well as other diseases. Leader of eastern India, Assam also supported Modi’s statement by arguing that cow’s pee and dung can treat the coronavirus.
Despite the claims, experts’ explanation is actually contradictory. “There is no scientific validation that any of these traditional medicines work to prevent coronavirus. Cow dung and urine are waste material and there’s no test that proves they are beneficial for us,” virologist and traditional medicine researcher Debprasad Chattopadhyay told German news outlet Deutsche Presse-Agentur.
