Wait what? Loki isn’t the only sibling Thor has?
While promoting “Thor: Ragnarok” on an Australian chat show, “The Project”, Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo were quizzed about the 3rd instalment’s villain Hela (played by Cate Blanchett). However, a host accidentally gave away a major spoiler in the upcoming Marvel flick.
As you may know, Hela is the terrifying Goddess of Death. She’s also responsible for obliterating Thor’s signature hammer, Mjolnir. During the chit-chat, host Tommy Little launches into a very specific question about the Asgardian’s family tree. He refers to Hela as Thor and Loki’s sister, not once, not twice, but 3 times!
“It’s a star-studded cast: the gorgeous Cate Blanchett plays your sister, Chris,” the interviewer states, before continuing, “And for a lot of this movie, your sister is trying to kill you…” Hemsworth was clearly not happy. “You can’t say sister,” the 34-year-old hunk said, hitting the desk in a little moment of frustration. “You can’t give that away,” he added.
In the Marvel Comics, Hela is actually the daughter of Loki. Fierce and malevolent, she was banished from Asgard by Odin. Seeing as how Odin is no longer in power, the Goddess of Death breaks free from her prison and seeks to claim the throne of Asgard as her own.
Although several fans have speculated that Hela may be Thanos’ love interest, Mistress Death, others suggest that the character is also partly inspired by the comic book character, Angela. Clearly, Marvel has made some changes to Hela’s backstory so it’ll be interesting to see how it plays out in “Thor: Ragnarok”.
Anyway, the secret is now out that Hela is Thor’s sister. You can skip right to 6:19 mark to watch the big spoiler here:
