CUBE Entertainment’s newest sub-unit – Triple H (트리플 H) – made their highly anticipated debut with their 1st mini-album, titled “199X”, yesterday (Monday, 1st May) and their music video for “365 FRESH” has already gained over 1.5 million views!
While “365 FRESH” is a funky, upbeat track, the music video sees the trio living their remaining days to the fullest with a bag of money they found in a stolen car. The video’s concept kinda reminded us of Troublemaker’s “Now” and “On The Road”, a Hollywood film starring Kristen Stewart and Garrett Hedlund.
Upon watching the video, many netizens pointed out that it has several scenes that are “inappropriate” for national broadcast. For example, in one scene, a topless HyunA is seen sleeping in between Hui and E’Dawn. Also, fans noted that some of HyunA’s outfits are too revealing. One netizen commented, “Do people expect a good song from HyunA? she got only popular for selling sex, not her talent.”Besides that, some netizens claimed that E’Dawn portrays a suicidal teen. At the beginning of the video, the PENTAGON member tries to “suffocate” himself by placing a plastic bag over his head. He even wants to get hit by a car later on.
“The suicide scenes I feel are a little reckless considering suicide rates in Korea,” a netizen wrote.
A YouTube user also suggested an interesting theory behind the video’s storyline. She said, “The MV features someone who is suicidal (E’Dawn), someone who gambles with their life (Hui), and someone who took a life (HyunA).”
Our take? The music video does have several controversial elements but that doesn’t mean it’s not well-crafted. The visuals in the video are pretty good and we actually like the plot. It’s interesting to see a K-Pop video that addresses social issues instead of focusing on the choreography.
