You already know that “Kingsman: The Secret Service“, which was released in January this year, was a surprise hit around the globe. What you didn’t know is that fans have been wanting to see its sequel.
There are many reasons why people would pay to see another “Kingsman” film.

One of the reasons is because the film, which was directed and co-written by Matthew Vaughn, starred Colin Firth, Samuel L. Jackson, and Michael Caine. It also introduced us to the young rising stars Taron Egerton and Sofia Boutella.
Based on “The Secret Service”, a comic book series created by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons, the film is considered Vaughn’s most successful movie to date as it received mainly positive reviews from critics and has grossed over $401 million at the global box office.
Due to it tremendous success, various insiders confirmed to TheWrap in April that a sequel is indeed in the works. There was no indication on whether Vaughn will return to direct, but he is later confirmed to be working on the script.
Now, fans’ prayers have been answered as The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the studio may begin filming the sequel in April 2016.
However, there are 2 problems for 20th Century Fox. First of all, Egerton will begin work on Lionsgate’s “Robin Hood: Origins” in February next year, which could create a conflict with the sequel’s start date. Another problem is that the script is not ready yet. Even though Fox has a sequel option on Egerton, Lionsgate is already in the midst of preproduction stage and is making offers to the actor.
On a positive note, insiders are confident that things will be worked out, as a similar “tug-of-war” erupted between Fox and Lionsgate over Jennifer Lawrence‘s obligations to “X-Men” and “The Hunger Games“.
If things do turn out well, Egerton will be the star of 2 studio franchises.
Vaughn is currently developing “The Golden Age”, a film adaptation of a comic book about superheroes in a retirement home at 20th Century Fox. If he’s going to direct the sequel of “Kingsman”, it would be the first sequel to a film that he has ever directed.
He is also producing “Eddie the Eagle”, an upcoming British-American sports comedy drama film that stars Egerton and “X-Men” actor Hugh Jackman. He was lined up to direct the reboot of “Flash Gordon” for Fox too.
