The second season of “Squid Game (오징어 게임)” made a lot of news, but it also brought a rapper back to the spotlight. Former BIGBANG (빅뱅) member T.O.P’s (탑) role as Thanos evoked mixed reactions from viewers. Regardless, fans are still happy to see the star again, especially given his hiatus after his drug scandal.
In his first interview in many years, the rapper recently spoke about being part of the global sensation. He also touched upon other topics, including his plans for the future. T.O.P, whose real name is Choi Seung Hyun (최승현), was asked about his decision to return to the entertainment industry. T.O.P previously shocked fans after announcing his departure from BIGBANG and his retirement.

However, the star showed slight interest in returning to the music industry, revealing that he spent the past seven years working on music to heal himself. T.O.P said, “I just kept working on music in the dark, and the reason I did that was not for any other reason but because music was the only place where I could breathe.” He also hopes to share his music with fans in some way, but it doesn’t seem the star is returning to the stage or releasing any music anytime soon.
T.O.P even implied that he’s no longer keen on the fast-paced life he had while in his former group. He said, “My primary goal is to establish a stable and less dramatic life. I want to reach a point where I can wake up without being bombarded by negative news and feel more at peace.” However, he did express gratitude towards “Squid Game” creator Hwang Dong Hyuk (황동혁) for letting him return to acting and trusting him to take on the role of Thanos.

T.O.P said, “The trust and the belief he (Hwang Dong Hyuk) had in me gave me the courage to take this on. As an actor, it is my duty to repay the trust.”. However, the 37-year-old admitted he was hesitant to play Thanos because the drug-addicted character mirrored his past. T.O.P has faced public scrutiny since admitting to smoking marijuana in 2017. Despite that, he said he was pulled by “destiny” to the part, accepting the arguably personal role.
For now, the star doesn’t have any projects set in place, but whatever T.O.P has planned for his future, we’re sure his fans will continue to support him along the way. What are your thoughts on this?
