Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands prides itself on offering a comfy, cozy place to call home while serving captivating entertainment and good food. Still, there is one aspect to the resort that can be easily overlooked when you’re bedazzled by its surrounding luxury.
As dedicated as Marina Bay Sands is to its guests, the resort also prides itself on its dedication to art and all it encompasses. In fact, it features several grand standing art pieces in its surrounding vicinity; from the Rain Oculus, the Tipping Wall and more. But, Marina Bay Sands’ crowning jewel has to be the ArtScience Museum.
The ArtScience Museum, while eye-catching on its own, also features curated exhibitions celebrating the works of various artists all according to themes. During our recent visit there, we got to explore the current ongoing exhibitions such as New Eden: Science Fiction Mythologies Transformed, to Mars: The Red Mirror and Future World: Where Art Meets Science.
Each exhibition was certainly an eye-opener, melding art and science in imaginative ways. For New Eden, this exhibit focused on how science fiction blends with Asian mythology, history and culture, exploring the complex connections between people and machines and fabricated realties by AI (artificial intelligence) and VR (virtual reality). Pieces of the exhibit provoked thought, contemplation and new ideas as we wandered through the gallery, immersing ourselves in the odd fusion of science fiction and art.
Mars: The Red Mirror allowed us to explore our connection to the planet Mars, from basic facts about it, to its history, to how its influenced our culture via media. Fun facts about Mars were presented via manuscripts, artefacts, and videos, all enough to hold one’s attention as we slowly ventured through humanity’s summative knowledge of Mars.
The ArtScience Museum also offers interactive ways of engaging with art. Future World: Where Art Meets Science makes good use of technology as visitors can get hands on with displays there, even making their own art at times. The VR experience Samsara is also available for viewing, allowing guests to truly get to grips with a story of birth and rebirth by witnessing all from a character’s eyes.
We’ll admit that not everyone might be fascinated by these exhibits. However, the ArtScience Museum has also revealed their upcoming ones, some of which you will surely not want to miss out on!
In 2024, the ArtScience Museum will be bringing the exhibit Goddess, highlighting iconic women in film and television, Frida Kahlo: The Life of an Icon, showcasing a unique biographical multi-sensory experience of the life and work of iconic Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, and last but not least, the immersive World of Studio Ghibli exhibit celebrating the iconic films of Japanese animation powerhouse, with large-scale interactive theatrical sets.
2024 will certainly be a happening year for Marina Bay’s ArtScience Museum and we recommend not missing out on these exhibits as each one offers enriching experiences all across the board. Hope to see you guys there!
