What Every Girl Needs In Her Emergency Breakup Kit!

Whether you’re single, in a relationship, a situationship, casually dating multiple people… there’s one thing that we can all agree on: Breakups SUCK. Despite how much we would like to believe that there’s lasting love, the divorce statistics tell us otherwise. For many of us, we may experience a breakup with a romantic partner at least once in our lifetime. It’s painful, it’s messy, and it’s a situation where nobody wins. However, there are some things we can do to make the entire situation a bit more bearable – introducing the Emergency Breakup Kit!

The kit is essentially a collection of items that will help get you through a difficult breakup. So if you’re currently going through a breakup, or you just wanna help out a friend, here’s what you need in an Emergency Breakup Kit:

1. Scented Candles

SOURCE: PEXELS

One of the first steps of moving on from a breakup is to remove everything that belonged to your ex- out of sight, out of mind. And we don’t just mean their underwear, their toothbrush, that one item they always seem to forget at your house – we mean EVERYTHING, even their scent! When you break up with someone, everything seems to remind you of them, even when it’s the smell of their shampoo or the detergent they used. So, light up a scented candle to give a fresh new scent to your environment. They have a soothing effect and can help you regulate your emotions.

2. Makeup Remover

SOURCE: PEXELS

Of course, if you’ve been crying, your mascara is either extremely waterproof or it’s been running down your face. Grab a makeup remover and clean up those black streaks on your face, babes! We recommend using oil-based makeup removers – they’re more moisturising, since your face is probably dry from the salt content in your tears.

3. Sheet Masks

SOURCE: PEXELS

Tears are inevitable when you’re going through a rough breakup, and unfortunately, they dry out the skin. So make sure to have a couple of sheet masks prepared in your kit – they’re great for moisturizing the skin, as well as calming down your body after a whole day of crying, thanks to its cooling effects. Take a deep breath and relax, you’re gonna be okay.

4. Lip Balm

SOURCE: PEXELS

Kiss their a*s goodbye with some plump and moisturized lips. Your lips, like your skin, are probably parched due to a lack of moisture. Ever notice how your lips turn bright red after a good cry? This is because the rush of blood to this area causes your lips to darken when you cry. Why not use it to your advantage and apply some glossy lip balm to create a beautifully tragic look. We can look good while still crying our hearts out.

5. Eye Cream

SOURCE: PEXELS

Moisturize those puffy eyes with some eye cream. Ever wonder why we get puffy eyes after a good cry? It’s because when we’re about to have a big cry, our ‘drainage system’ can’t keep up, causing the tears to spill out of the eyes, and as our body works to reabsorb the liquid, some of it remains in the tissue under our eyes, making it puffy. Use cooling eye cream before you doze off into the night, so your eyes will look less puffy in the morning. It’s okay to cry, just remember to get enough rest, okay?

6. Chocolates, Lots Of ‘Em

6 Easy Ways To Keep Your Relationship Strong, Fun & Mostly Drama-Free!

Chocolates make for a great V-day snack, but they also soothe the soul after a nasty break up. Research has shown that incorporating chocolate into your diet can help ease anxiety, and they may even help you adjust better to stressful situations. They’re known as one of the happy mood foods, boosting your brain’s serotonin, which can improve your overall mood. It’s totally fine to give in to your cravings from time to time, especially after a traumatic situation.

7. Shopping Vouchers

SOURCE: PEXELS

Feeling empty? There’s always retail therapy. Get some shopping vouchers for yourself or your friend who’s going through a break up so that you can indulge in your shopping cravings. Yes, there are healthier ways to get over a break up, such as journaling and reflecting on your relationship, trying to see things from your partner’s perspective, and you know, actual therapy. But sometimes, you just wanna buy some stuff and distract yourself from the situation, and that’s totally okay.
