Vietnamese singer, actress, and beauty queen Nguyen Huong Giang is set to make history as the first transgender woman to represent Vietnam at the Miss Universe 2025 pageant. The announcement came on Wednesday, 24th September, when Miss Universe Vietnam revealed that the beauty queen had been handpicked as the nation’s official delegate.
Giang, who first rose to international fame after winning Miss International Queen in 2018, expressed her excitement and determination in a heartfelt Instagram statement the following day. Calling her inclusion “a door to equality and hope,” she said Miss Universe has become a stage where “all women are women, lifting each other up and shining together in front of billions.”

The 31-year-old star emphasised that her journey is not only about gender but also bout perseverance, faith, and breaking boundaries. “Nothing is impossible, and it is never too late for any woman to use the Miss Universe platform to break stereotypes and give back to her community,” she wrote. Giang added that her story should inspire others to pursue their dreams, declaring: “Your starting point does not define your limits.”
In its official statement, Miss Universe Vietnam praised her as “an elite representative,” citing her beauty, intelligence, boldness, and unwavering spirit. “She is a living testament to the power of resilience and talent,” the organisation noted, highlighting her multi-faceted career as a singer, actress, model, television host, judge, and producer. Just last year, the beauty queen took over as producer of Miss Universe Vietnam 2024, further showcasing her drive to challenge herself.
Huong Giang’s selection marks a significant moment for Vietnam and the Miss Universe pageant. Transgender women have been eligible to compete since 2012, while married women and mothers were officially welcomed starting in 2022. Her participation also comes at a time when the pageant continues to embrace inclusivity under the leadership of CEO Anne Jakrajutatip, a Thai transgender businesswoman, and President Raul Rocha Cantu of Mexico.
The 74th Miss Universe competition will be held on 21st November 2025 in Thailand, where Giang will take the global stage alongside other inspiring contestants, including Malaysia’s Chloe Lim and Palestine’s Nadeen Ayoub. With her message of resilience and equality, she is poised not only to represent her country but also to inspire millions around the world.
