Fans of reality television and travel shows have probably heard of “The Amazing Race”. 12 pairs of contestants race around the world to navigate in foreign areas while completing in challenges to be the first to reach the finish line. The show has been filmed in multiple countries all across the globe and, most recently, in our country of Malaysia.
Twitter user @/_mlikr recently tweeted that the show’s upcoming season will include Malaysia after spotting a few contestants filming for the show in Penang. With the tweet, he shared two videos of contestants walking around with hiking backpacks, with “The Amazing Race” logo on the bag tags. In one of the videos, a camera crew could be seen filming two of the contestants, further cementing the claims.

However, Malaysia might not be appearing in the American version of the programme, but instead, the Australian version. Twitter user Izad Syah pointed out that two contestants from the videos were Jana Pittman, a former Olympian, and her son, Cornelis Rowlinson, who will be in the upcoming celebrity edition of “The Amazing Race Australia”. A quick search also shows that filming for the programme is still ongoing and the filming locations include Penang, Malaysia.
Nevertheless, many Malaysians are still excited to see our country featured in an international programme, with some saying it’s a rarity for Malaysia to be one of the destinations. Some even joked about the potential challenges the contestants could face while in the country, wondering if it includes our local delicacies.
It is unknown if the contestants are still filming in Malaysia – but if they are, try not to get in their way of winning.
