Netizens were surprised to learn that some of Dato Seri Vida’s assets had been seized by the Kuala Lumpur High Court due to an alleged unpaid debt of RM1,060,285 to subcontractors dating back to 2018. Items confiscated included two Toyota Vellfires, a Toyota Grand Hiace, a BMW X7, and various personal belongings from her house in Ipoh, Perak, which were sealed earlier this week.
The entrepreneur responded to the news via an Instagram post, stating that she had hired a lawyer to help resolve the matter and would provide an explanation soon. During a TikTok livestream on Tuesday (26th November), she confirmed that she would hold a press conference to address the situation once she returns to Malaysia, but not before sharing her thoughts on the subcontractors who made the allegations against her.
The businesswoman claimed the subcontractors were demanding excessive payments for the Vida All Star Studio studio renovation project despite not completing the work. “You keep claiming more money, but you haven’t finished the job! How about you complete the project first, then claim the money? You keep going over budget and had the nerve to say I didn’t pay you. There wasn’t even electricity or water in the building!” she said during the broadcast.
Dato Seri Vida then acknowledged that customers usually pay contractors upfront, or at least provide a deposit, with the remaining amount due after the work is completed. However, in her case, she claimed the contractors continually asked for more money while the project remained unfinished. “I already paid them in full. This wasn’t a payment-by-progress deal. I paid them everything to make their jobs easier, to support them and give them a chance,” she said.
The “I Am Me” singer also revealed that she did not know the subcontractor who came to her house during the asset seizure. “I have no idea who you are; I have not done business with you. I will say that you are very clever, I’ll give you that. You know your way with the law and used it against me.” The livestream was reposted on TikTok, where netizens sympathised with the entrepreneur. However, some pointed out that the Kuala Lumpur High Court had ordered the confiscation of her belongings, which suggests that Dato Seri Vida may not be entirely in the right and that she should address this matter in court later.
According to Sinar Harian, at one point during the broadcast, Dato Seri Vida also claimed that the plaintiffs who entered her house did not have a warrant. “There should’ve been another letter. There was no letter or warrant to enter the house, but due to the cooperation of the staff that I didn’t even know about, the plaintiffs were allowed to enter,” she said.
