For many celebrities, it’s a nightmare to be recognised in public because that could lead to you getting mobbed by fans or even causing a nuisance – but what would happen if a celebrity wasn’t recognised even after being asked for their name?
Recently, a XiaoHongShu user posted a video of her meeting Hong Kong actor Michael Tong (唐文龍) in public – but it seems she wasn’t aware who he was. In the video, the user approached the star and asked him for his name, assuming he was a regular citizen. She then asked his occupation, to which Michael sheepishly replied that he’s an actor in the entertainment industry. However, Michael appeared slightly embarrassed when the woman couldn’t recognise him, even when he mentioned his full name.
The video received tons of comments from netizens, who felt slight pity for Michael for not being recognised by the public. Some criticised the user, saying she should’ve recognised him given how many well-known dramas he’s appeared in. Others said they thought of him as one of the most handsome actors in the industry, particularly during the peak of his career. There were also questions about whether the video was scripted, but others voiced doubt because the 55-year-old’s embarrassed expression seemed genuine.
For those unfamiliar, Michael is an American-Hong Kong actor who is known for his recurring roles in many TVB dramas in the 2000s, including “Healing Hands 2 (妙手仁心II)” and “Armed Reaction 2 (陀槍師姐 II)”. He also played a role in the 2017 blockbuster drama “Heart and Greed (溏心風暴3)” and appeared in movies like “Shock Wave (拆彈專家)”. In recent years, he has shifted his focus to projects in Mainland China, acting in many web series and movies.
It must’ve been awkward for Michael not to be recognised but we hope he isn’t disheartened by the interaction. Thankfully, the young woman said she’d be watching all his dramas after the meeting, so the good news is that she’ll never forget him now!
