One must always be careful on the road, especially during the holiday season. There have been many cases where drivers were caught recklessly driving on the road, endangering the safety of not only themselves but also other road users.

Recently, a video circulating on social media that showed a black Toyota Alphard car overtaking several cars in front of it in a dangerous manner went viral. In the video posted, the driver of the Toyota Alphard even used the double-lined roads to overtake other vehicles.

According to Malaysiakini, the incident took place on Sunday (2nd July) at around 3:30pm in Kampung Pak Kancil, Setiu – Kota Bharu. Based on the car’s license plate, many pointed out that the owner of the Toyota Alphard is Ahmad Marzuk Shaary, a Member of Parliament for Pengkalan Chepa and a member of The Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS).

Police investigated the incident after it was brought to their attention and from their findings, they discovered that a 30-year-old man, presumably the politician’s driver, was the one driving the car. As for the reason for breaking traffic law, according to Facebook user Abu Zaid Al-Harith, who posted the original video, the driver apparently had to deliver Raya Haji meat, or sacrificial meat to their destination as quickly as possible before they were spoiled.

Setiu District Police Chief DSP Affandi Hussin told the media that the driver has come forward and admitted to violating the traffic law and was called in for questioning. “The police have also issued a summon to the driver of the P 45 vehicle under the offense of R12(3)(A) LN167/59 which is overtaking on double lines,” he said.

For your information, this was not the first time the car belonging to Ahmad Marzuk Shaary made headlines for reckless driving. Back in 2021, his car was involved in a similar case as the driver was seen rushing to get to the airport. The PAS member has since apologised for the inconvenience caused that day. As for the recent incident, the Parliament member has yet to release a statement.
