(Video) “They’re Minors!”: Fans Slam Sasaengs For Recording CORTIS Changing Backstage

Last month, BIGHIT Music’s newest boy group, CORTIS (코르티스), made their official debut. What makes them stand out is their strong involvement in every aspect of their work, from music and choreography to the production of their music videos. Although they are still a rookie group, the boys have already demonstrated their abilities, particularly as several members previously contributed to their seniors’ songs and dance routines.

It has been a month since the release of their debut single “GO!”, and their popularity continues to rise. However, this also means they are now vulnerable to the dangers posed by sasaengs. Unfortunately for the members, they have already experienced their first encounter with obsessive fans who invaded their privacy. Here’s what happened:

Earlier this week, a video began circulating online showing a group of women, believed to be foreign fans in their 20s or 30s, gathered outside a holding tent backstage at an unspecified event. They appeared to be spying on CORTIS and filming through gaps in the tent while the members were changing. In the viral clip, Martin was seen noticing the women outside before quickly moving away.

As expected, the clip sparked outrage among fans, who condemned the sasaengs for harassing the boys, the majority of whom are still minors (age 16 – 17). Many criticised the group of women for invading the members’ privacy, with some even accusing them of predatory behaviour, as all members except James are still underage. Others directed their criticism at BIGHIT Music and the event organiser for failing to provide adequate security in the area to protect the idols.

At the time of writing, BIGHIT Music has yet to address the viral video of sasaengs filming their underage idols. Sasaeng behaviour remains a persistent issue within the K-pop industry, and it is understandably frustrating that idols are forced to deal with such obsessive stalkers, often with little to no protection from their agencies. One can only hope that CORTIS, along with other rookie groups with underage members, will be afforded stronger security measures to prevent similar incidents in future.

Here’s the viral clip:
