Nothing beats watching a highly-anticipated movie at the cinema. However, the experience can be ruined by some unforeseeable circumstances like the time some alleged late VVIP guests caused a movie to restart. Another moviegoer also had the worst luck after she discovered a used condom in her seat.

Now imagine watching a movie, only for you to evacuate the cinema cause someone triggered the fire alarm by vaping in one of the halls. That was the case for these moviegoers, unfortunately.

Yesterday morning (Tuesday, 30th May), moviegoers were excited to finally watch Disney’s latest live-action movie, “The Little Mermaid” (as seen in the video posted) when their experience was suddenly disrupted by the fire alarm. Thankfully there was no actual fire but the alarm did cause the viewers to panic as they had no idea what was happening.

To make matters even more frustrating, it was discovered that someone had been vaping inside one of the cinema halls, triggering the alarm. According to Twitter user @amofficialmy who posted the video, the incident took place at Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) 1 Utama, Petaling Jaya. It was reported that they were only 10 minutes into the movie when the alarm went off.

Speaking to mStar, Am revealed that everyone in the cinema had to be evacuated, following the emergency procedure. They were allowed back in once the management learned the cause of the alarm being triggered. As for the culprit, the netizen tweeted, “I don’t know what happened to him but the management caught him through CCTV footage.”

The incident went viral on Twitter with many netizens expressing their frustration and condemning the person who vaped in the cinema hall. At the time of writing, neither GSC nor 1 Utama Shopping Centre released a statement regarding the incident.

We don’t know what possessed the individual to even think it was a good idea to vape in the cinema hall but let this be a reminder to be considerate to others and follow the rules when watching a movie at the cinema.
