Netizens have criticised many Malaysian celebrities for posting sexy photos of themselves on social media – but some celebrities have also taken a stand against all the hate they received. After receiving flak for her underwear selfie, actress-turned-soldier Sarah Hildebrand has spoken about why it doesn’t bother her.
The 32-year-old recently posted a selfie of her posing in front of a mirror, wearing only a black underwear set. In the same post were other pictures from the actress’ daily life, including photos of food and another selfie. That specific photo was the one that drew attention from netizens on both sides of the fence.
On one side, some netizens felt she shouldn’t have posted the image since she is a Muslim, urging her to take it down to avoid more criticism. There were also negative comments directed at Sarah’s weight and her body. However, some netizens also supported the actress, praising her body while advising her to ignore the negative comments.
The US Air Force soldier briefly responded to all the comments and articles written about her post via a Q&A session on her Instagram Stories. When one question asked if the 32-year-old was okay with articles written about her, she replied, “No, it’s not okay.” And in another similar question, she replied, “I have more important things to do.”
Another question asked how the actress could remain strong after reading the news and comments about her. Sarah replied with a video, saying, “People just like to say whatever they want to say. People are ignorant. People feel like their opinions weigh a lot, and people just believe what they want to believe”. She also gave an example where someone had assumed a food package in the background of her photo was a sex toy, showing that some people can be ignorant in their comments.
It’s nice to know that Sarah is not letting the empty, negative comments get to her.
