Although mamak restaurants are one of Malaysians’ go-to places for a meal, there have sadly been some unpleasant dining experiences. A few years back, there was an unforgettable incident at a local mamak stall that involved a terrified customer who witnessed a large rat eating a piece of fried chicken from a glass display. In a similar vein, another distressing occurrence surfaced online, also featuring the furry creature.

A 1.5-minute video went viral on Facebook this week, showing a rat enjoying Tandoori chicken at an unspecified mamak stall. The video, posted by a user on the Facebook group Malaysian Education Info page, depicts the rat feasting on chicken inside the Tandoori glass display, horrifying the diners who witnessed the scene.

As shown in the footage below, the rat was seen nibbling on the Tandoori chicken that hung from the metal skewers left open in the glass display. The Tandoori stall was unattended, which is probably how the rodent managed to climb onto the skewers undisturbed.

As the alarmed diners began to scream, the rat scuttled under tables and chairs, causing chaos among the patrons in the background as it fled. Despite the commotion, there were still no staff members from the stall taking action to chase the vermin away or address the situation.

Numerous netizens expressed their disgust regarding the stall’s cleanliness and even questioned why the user didn’t include the name and location of the stall, as this information could prompt action and help prevent food poisoning incidents. There was also one user who wondered if the particular chicken was going to be served unknowingly to a customer.

A few joked about the situation, saying that “Mickey Mouse”, the Disney icon, had the guts to help himself with the chicken during business hours and that netizens shouldn’t be upset as the rat could be hungry as well. Others commented that the rat knew where to get good food and that someone should just give it a chef hat, hinting at the well-known Disney movie “Ratatouille.”

What do you think of the situation?
