Another week, another issue with the train. Earlier today (Thursday, 28th May 2026), the LRT Ampang/Sri Petaling line suffered a service disruption after one of the trains derailed.

According to Rapid KL, the incident occurred at the Chan Sow Lin Station, with the train reportedly derailed after a track switch failure. The company said in its statement, “A train became immobilised after a derailment, resulting in delays and disruption along the Ampang and Sri Petaling Line”.

Rapid KL also confirmed the number of passengers aboard the train during the time of the accidents, adding that all 25 passengers were evacuated in accordance with standard operating procedures. There are no reported injuries. The technical teams are currently carrying out investigations and recovery work at the incident site.

Meanwhile, the Ampang/Sri Petaling is still facing service disruptions, so alternative train services and free shuttle buses are activated to ease congestion and help commuters continue their journeys. These alternative services will be available until the issue is resolved and the Ampang/Sri Petaling line resumes operations. Here is the current schedule:

  • Trains from Sentul Timur will return to Pudu, operating at a four-minute frequency.
  • Shuttle trains between Cheras and Bandar Tasik Selatan, operating from Platform 1 at eight-minute intervals.
  • Shuttle trains between Ampang and Pandan Jaya, operating from Platform 1 at a five-minute interval.
  • Trains from Putra Heights will return to Bandar Tasik Selatan, operating at a four-minute frequency.

There are also free shuttle buses deployed between Hang Tuah, Cheras, Maluri and Pandan Jaya, with buses every 15 to 20 minutes, depending on traffic conditions. Passengers travelling towards the city centre are advised to use the Putrajaya Line by changing trains at Sungai Besi. Station police and auxiliary police personnel are available on-site for assistance.

RapidKL ended its statement, apologising for the inconvenience caused. It’s worth noting that today’s issue with the LRT is the latest incident in a string of disruptions affecting Rapid KL’s rail network in the past month. On 18th May (Monday), a train on the Kelana Jaya LRT line suffered a technical issue, causing delays during the morning peak hours.
