Understandably, one may not be able to contain their emotions when face-to-face with their favourite celebrity. Nevertheless, there’s still an expectation that fans will control their behaviour when interacting with stars.
Earlier this week, South Korean actor Park Bogum (박보검) held his “Be With You” fan meeting in Monterrey, Mexico. The event was part of his fan meeting world tour and was the first stop for the Latin American leg. Like the other stops, the fan meeting included a segment where the star would walk through the audience to greet fans. While there are safety concerns for this segment, Park Bogum rarely encountered issues during the other stops of the tour.
However, during the Monterrey stop, the actor came across a few aggressive fans while walking through the audience. In a now-viral video, a group of people grabbed Park Bogum as he walked past them and held him by the waist. The security staff immediately freed the actor and reprimanded the fans. Park Bogum, who was also performing at the time, looked taken aback, but smiled through the situation.
In another clip, a few fans were also caught inappropriately touching the actor as he walked through the crowd. Some even reached into his jacket, although it’s unknown whether it was intentional or an accident. It’s worth noting that the two videos appear to be the only examples of excessive behaviour during the night. In other videos from the same segment, most fans kept a respectable distance from the star.
Regardless, the two incidents sparked outrage amongst fans, many of whom called the behaviour unacceptable. Some even said that touching and grabbing the actor counts as sexual harassment. Others criticised the crowd for not respecting Park Bogum’s safety and personal space. Some also lamented that the fans’ behaviour during the show may affect South Korean stars’ opinion of the city, resulting in them not returning to Monterrey or Mexico for future events.
Park Bogum and his agency have yet to address the issue, but they’ll likely let things slide. Nevertheless, we hope fans will learn to be respectful of their favourite stars to ensure the safety of the celebs and the crowd. Here are clips of the incident:
